Members of the Kansas Silent Film Festival and participants meet for supper at Washburn University on Friday evening. The crew ate at 5:30, celebrating began at 7 p.m.

Kevin Willmott, Black Filmmaker and University of Kansas Professor, introduced a special showing of Body and Soul, 1925. Director Oscar Micheaux was a unique American talent. He was a Black filmmaker working outside Hollywood making films featuring Black actors in stories about real people.

After the showing Kevin spoke with attendees outside the concert hall.

to some of the films shown.

The festival committee depends on the help of volunteers, who man the tables and sell items in the foyer during the festival.

Event

Kansas Silent Film Festival 2002 was held at
Washburn University's White Concert Hall.
The Program ran on Friday evening and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday. Feature films and short subjects were accompanied by live organ, piano or instrumental music.


Denise comments on a film just shown. Dr. Fauwell leaves his station at the organ. Our muscians take a much-deserved bow.
